For more than four decades, Northwest Battery & Automotive has been serving Helena, MT and its surrounding areas. This is a family operation and we’re proud to work alongside each other and support the city of Helena.

Our History

Bob Mcglynn opened up shop in 1973 and grew his business from the ground up. In 1985 Bob’s stepson, Jim Beck, started working at the shop part time while still in high school, igniting a passion for this line of work. He went on to get his degree and graduate from Wyoming Tech in 1988. Jim is now the owner and operator since purchasing the business in 2001. Jim’s son-in-law, Mathew Hooker is working to someday, step into ownership, making him the 3rd generation to operate Northwest Battery!

Our Team

Jim Beck is the owner and also works as an automotive technician. With his 38+ years of experience, he remains one of the top automotive electrical specialists in Helena today! His ASE Certifications include Engine Repair, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Heating and Air Conditioning, and Engine Performance.

Mat Hooker is our manager and auto technician who also jumps in and helps with sales. He has been with us here at Northwest Battery & Automotive since 2012 and has since gained extensive knowledge under Jim’s leadership. With ASE certifications in Engine Repair, Suspension and Steering, Electrical/Electronic Systems and Heating and Air Conditioning.

Vince Bowen is usually the first guy you’ll see when walking into the shop. He has been our sales and service specialist since 2021. Vince is a Navy Veteran and Butte native and has spent over 17 years serving our beautiful country.

We are all avid outdoorsman and love Montana! When we’re not in the shop, we are out enjoying Montana’s abundant treasures.
